On April 10, 2020, the top five states that searched Google for the question, “When will I receive my stimulus check?” are listed below.

Note that the Google Trends rankings are based off search interest relative to population, not the absolute number of searches.

Top Five States:

1. Kentucky
2. West Virginia
3. Mississippi
4. Alabama
5. Indiana

Is there a pattern to the list? All the states are either in the Midwest or the South, as well as reliable Republican-voting states. Alabama, Mississippi and West Virginia consistently rank toward the bottom in terms of life expectancy and per-capita income.

On the other side, the five states that showed the least amount of search interest to the question, “When will I receive my stimulus check?” are listed below.

1. Nebraska
2. New Jersey
3. California
4. Colorado
5. New York

Nebraska, the state with the least amount of search interest, stands out from the rest of the pack as being consistently Republican, with the rest being moderately or reliably Democratic. A common feature among these states is that these they are relatively high income compared to the rest of the United States.

The states of Wyoming, North and South Dakota were excluded from the list due to insufficient search data reported on Google.
